SUMMARY:Morning Bird Walk @ Governors Point
DESCRIPTION:Join a guided bird walk through Governors Point\, a 98-acre future nature reserve just south of Bellingham\, led by Whatcom Land Trust Board Member and local North Cascades Audubon birder Lynne Givler. This walk is part of Bellingham Bird Week\, hosted by the North Cascades Audubon Society and Audubon Washington. The week celebrates the vital role Bellingham and Whatcom County play in the journeys of millions of migratory birds\, as well as the everyday lives of our resident species. It’s a unique opportunity to explore this wooded peninsula\, with nearly 9\,500 feet of shoreline along Chuckanut and Samish Bays and stunning viewpoints that are not yet open to the public. \n  \nEvent Details: \n\nTHIS EVENT IS FULL. If you would like to get on the waitlist\, please fill out this form: https://secure.lglforms.com/form_engine/s/ISWnaEK-RPXt53BJusoYVQ\nWhat to expect: Expect a slower pace\, narrow trails\, a section of 100+ stairs leading up the bluff\, and some steep areas.\nWhat to bring: A water bottle\, binoculars\, comfortable shoes\, and a backpack. Please note there are no bathroom facilities at Governors Point.\nHow to get there: You can carpool or meet us at Governors Point. Carpoolers should arrive at the Whatcom Land Trust office (412 N. Commercial St.\, Bellingham) by 8:30 a.m. sharp for a prompt departure. If you’d rather meet us directly at Governors Point\, plan to arrive by 9 a.m. Directions to the meeting point will be emailed to you after you register.\n\n  \n \n  \nSite Info: \nJust south of Bellingham\, where the forests of Chuckanut Mountain meet the Salish Sea\, lies one of the most extraordinary pieces of land in Whatcom County. Governors Point is a 98-acre coastal peninsula with nearly 9\,500 feet of marine shoreline along Chuckanut\, Pleasant\, and Samish Bays—and for decades\, many of us have admired it from the water or glimpsed it from the road. \nNow\, thanks to years of community commitment and advocacy\, and a remarkable donation from landowner Randy Bishop\, those 98 acres are protected forever as a future nature reserve. This is one of the last remaining undeveloped coastal forest habitats on the Salish Sea. \n \n
