SUMMARY:Work Party for National Trails Day @ Lake Whatcom Park with Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition and Whatcom County
DESCRIPTION:Join Whatcom Land Trust\, Whatcom County\, and the Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition (WMBC) in celebrating National Trails Day at Lake Whatcom Park! This well-loved community park offers miles of forested trails\, scenic lake views\, and important habitat for wildlife. Together\, we’ll spend the day caring for the trails that connect people to this special place. \nVolunteers will help maintain and improve the trail system through brushing (clearing back overgrown vegetation along the trail corridor)\, tread work (reshaping and reinforcing the trail surface for better drainage and durability)\, and general upkeep to support safe access while protecting surrounding habitat. Whether you’re an experienced trail builder or brand new to stewardship\, this is a great opportunity to give back\, learn new skills\, and spend time outdoors with a passionate community. \nTools and lunch are provided. This property\, along with Lookout Mountain Forest Preserve\, was reconveyed from the Department of Natural Resources in 2014 with the help of Whatcom Land Trust. This large park protects forested and wetland habitats within the Lake Whatcom Watershed\, contains miles of trails open to the public\, and provides exceptional views of Lake Whatcom. \n

DESCRIPTION:Join Whatcom Land Trust staff for a day of invasive species removal in the incredible floodplains at Rutsatz Salmon Reserve. \nThis beautiful stretch of protected land offers a rewarding opportunity to care for a dynamic floodplain ecosystem while spending time in a truly special place. During this Field Friday\, volunteers will focus on removing invasive Scotch broom and butterfly bush using tools like weed wrenches. This work is essential to reducing competition for native plants\, improving habitat for wildlife\, and supporting the long-term health of the floodplain. We’ll hike out together to the work area and spend the day restoring this important landscape. \nWe will have snacks and tools available. DESCRIPTION:Join Whatcom Land Trust staff for a full day of stewardship at North Fork Eagle\, located along the North Fork of the Nooksack River near Welcome. \nThis Field Friday offers an opportunity to care for a dynamic floodplain while working along a trail that winds through a beautiful forested landscape. Volunteers will focus on trail maintenance and invasive species removal\, including Himalayan blackberry\, holly\, and other invasive plants. This work helps restore native habitat\, improve access\, and support the health of the floodplain ecosystem. This stretch of river is an important spawning area for chum salmon\, which in turn support large numbers of bald eagles that feed and roost nearby.
