SUMMARY:Field Friday Removing Invasive Species @ Fenton
DESCRIPTION:Spend the day with Land Trust Stewardship staff removing invasive plant species to improve habitat at Fenton. The 72-acre Fenton site is located north of Custer and east of Blaine along Valley View Road and is made up of two parcels purchased in 2006 from Ray Fenton. The property serves as a nature reserve and contains a mature mixed forest\, a 7-acre field\, approximately 1\,430 feet of Haynie Creek\, a pond that was previously connected to Haynie Creek\, and a variety of wildlife including deer\, coyote\, black bear\, cougar\, river otter\, beaver\, bats\, hawks\, owls\, and many other species. Coho salmon is known to spawn and rear in Haynie Creek on the property. \nWhat to Expect: Walking on uneven ground\, removing English Holly and Nightshade. \nHow to Get There: We will meet at the Whatcom Land Trust Office at 8 am and carpool from there. \nRSVP: This event is FULL. Join us for a day of restoration and taking in the beautiful views at Maple Creek Reach. This protected land has seen restoration efforts for the past 15 years\, and it is critical to keep the momentum going\, restoring this critical habitat for bald eagles and all five species of Pacific salmon.  \nWhat to Expect: Walking on uneven ground. \nRSVP: Sign up here! \nHow to get there: Parking is at the site near 7630 Mt Baker Hwy\, Maple Falls\, WA 98266.
