Field Friday Planting Day and Site Visit @ Saxon 5950

November 8 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

This Field Friday, we’ll focus on planting native trees and shrubs to improve habitat that benefits salmon, birds, and other native wildlife. This 8.266-acre site—roughly the size of eight soccer fields—protects approximately 600 feet of critical shoreline along the South Fork Nooksack River. Last year, Whatcom Land Trust removed a structurally unsound building from the site and prepared the area for new plantings. Watch the episode of Stewardship Diaries that covers the Saxon demolition. Enjoy a day by the river while planting in the newly cleared areas and along the riverbanks to increase biodiversity and help build a more resilient ecosystem.

What to Expect: Bending, stooping, using tools to dig and cut, installing protective measures around the new plants (blue tubes), and walking on uneven ground.

How to Get There: We will meet at the Whatcom Land Trust Office at 8 am and carpool from there.

RSVP: Registration is REQUIRED for this event. Sign up here!

Additional details about the day will be shared the week before the Field Friday.
