Field Friday Planting @ Kelsey Nature Reserve with Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association

Volunteer at Kelsey Reserve for this month’s Field Friday.
Join Whatcom Land Trust and Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association to plant native trees and shrubs at Kelsey Nature Reserve in Ferndale. This area hosts wetlands, forests, meadows, and streams. With your help, we can continue building a resilient ecosystem for wildlife and future generations to enjoy. Come prepared to walk around some of the reserve to check out key aspects of the land. We hope to see you out on this epic site with us!

Registration is REQUIRED for this event: Sign up here!
Once you register, additional details will be sent by our Volunteer Coordinator, Lauren Ralbovsky, 4 to 7 days before the event. If you have questions in the meantime, email lauren.r@whatcomlandtrust.org.
What to Expect: walking on uneven ground, digging, bending and stooping, cutting plants, and bushwacking.
How to get there: Field Fridays start at the Whatcom Land Trust office. 412 N Commercial St, Bellingham, WA 98225. We’ll offer some carpool options from Bellingham, but we ask that anyone able to meet us out by Lake Terrell do so. Parking information will be included in the pre-event email.
Site Info:Â
This special place was Whatcom Land Trust’s second protected property, donated by Ruth Kelsey in 1992. Since then, the Land Trust has expanded the reserve by adding a 51-acre parcel in 2024, which completes protection of the Lake Terrell shoreline through its connection with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife lands. Today, this protected land provides habitat for beaver, songbirds, coho, and many other native wildlife species. While important stewardship work has already taken place, there are still many opportunities for restoration.
