Caleb Barville is a college student, avid mountain biker, trail runner, kayaker and outdoor enthusiast. He also values the reciprocal relationship between humans and nature.

“I love recreating in nature because I involve myself with this beautiful place, I clear my head, I exercise, and I keep my body feeling good. If nature is giving me all of this, I should give back to it… it just makes sense,” says Caleb.

Galbraith Mountain, where Whatcom Land Trust holds a conservation easement protecting against development, is a favorite spot for Caleb and many Bellingham residents to go mountain biking.

“Recreational users that come into the forest and leave their footprints on the ground have a responsibility to steward the land,” Caleb says. This philosophy drives his commitment to stewardship. You’ll often find him volunteering at Whatcom Land Trust work parties and inspiring his generation to engage in conservation efforts.

Caleb is studying Environmental Science at Western Washington University and founded the Ecological Restoration Club to introduce more students to hands-on stewardship opportunities. In a world increasingly marked by climate challenges, Caleb’s active involvement in stewardship helps him stay grounded and hopeful. He is an incredible supporter of Whatcom Land Trust — He donates his time and energy while working to empower other students to do the same.
